Welcome to Moorish
For the past ten years Moorish has been flourishing in Ashburton, in the heart of Devon, between Exeter and Plymouth.
Serving a changing repertoire of small and large dishes with flavours from Spain and the eastern Mediterranean. Our well balanced and informed selection of wines complements these dishes in which we use many local ingredients.
By moorish we mean ‘loosely’ the cuisine that resulted from the Arabic occupation of the eastern Mediterranean and north Africa.
Over time the introduction of an exotic range of spices, herbs and fruits, such as preserved lemons, pomegranates, saffron, harissa, chermoula, ras al hanous, sumac and zatar (wild thyme) combined with vegetables and other ingredients from the new world, has arrived at the moorish cuisine of today.
Owen, our Chef, has trained and worked in London specialising in events catering and as a private chef in the city and at IPC magazines. He runs the restaurant alongside his Spanish born wife Olga.
